Magic

Just about every night the baby wakes ups around nine after sleeping for a few hours and is ready to rock and roll.  Angel and I, of course, are not. We are ready to snuggle up on the couch and finally have an adult conversation and remember that we are married to someone, which is how we got these kids in the first place.

But Santiago is raring to go and it is hard not resist those warm cheeks, hair standing straight up and adorable pajamas so he usually joins us out in the living room for a good hour to two hours.  Now, at first this routine was dreaded by us, and at the first sound of him around nine we would shake our heads, close our eyes out of frustration and, at times, swear.

Now one of us gladly gets him and we snuggle in with him on the couch.  I usually top him off with milk and then he smiles, talks and shows us all his new tricks for a few hours,  We have created some of our most memorable moments with him during this time. Whether it is laughing at his faces or helping him poop, these two hours have become quite a show for us.  It also gives us time to be with just him.  Very rarely does he have our full attention and do we have his.  So, it has become our thing,  Late nights with Santiago.  Much better and meaningful than anything we could watch on TV or read on the internet,   It has become the magic hour for us and for him.  Soaking it all up. All the goodness.  All the love.  All the memories. All of it. Because before you know it, it will be over.
